People in Maryland can debate all day about the superiority of Boardwalk versus Restaurant crab cakes, but there is no arguing about Maryland’s wage statistics for project management professionals. A statewide analysis shows every field of PMPs receiving salaries higher than the U.S. median. Note, however, that these statistics are pushed upward by the proximity of the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria area, which, while technically outside Maryland, employs significant numbers of Maryland residents. For example, over 7,000 architectural and engineering managers work in this metropolitan area alone, earning 110% of the national average. This region also employs over 19,000 computer and information systems managers, earning 117% of the median salary. Construction managers there are at around 119% of the median, and industrial production managers are at 120%. At the top are transportation, storage, and distribution managers, earning 127% of the national average. The city of Salisbury shows lower numbers, with construction managers making 82% of the U.S. median, or $68,000.
